Linden take game to Quins

Hawick Harrlequins 10

Hawick Linden 37

A STEVEN Bouglas hat-trick of tries helped Linden run out convincing winners in this pre-season friendly at Wilton Lodge Park, although the Quins took the lead with an early penalty.

However, a good break by Blair Irving led to Stuart Renwick putting in a chip kick for Steven Bouglas to pounce for the visitors’ first try.

Graham Colville then stole a Quins line-out and a drive by the forwards saw Renwick find Bouglas, who burst through for his second try, Renwick converting.

Quins fought back with a converted try to reduce the Royal Blues’ deficit to 12-10 at the half-time whistle.

Steven Beattie kicked a penalty to stretch Linden’s lead and from a scrum, Colville picked and fed Renwick, whose deft grubber kick behind the advancing defence allowed Craig Russell to score.

Beattie converted before adding a penalty, and Linden rounded the game off in style, when Craig Mitchell linked up with Stuart Campbell to allow Bouglas to complete his trio of tries.

And Gary Wardle scored the final try soon after, thanks to great off-loads from Thomas Anderson and Russell.
