Linden came away from Recreation Park with nothing, although their second-half efforts warranted some form of reward.
Things didn’t start well for the Royal Blues as the home team opened the scoring after seven minutes with a try from Nick Hammond. More followed, with Ben Inglis touching down twice in quick succession and Lee Inglis adding another. Liam West made one conversion and Linden were staring down the barrel at 22-0.
The Volunteer Park men started to get a foothold and a quick tap saw Kirk Ford go over for a try which he also converted to give his team a slight chance.
Ford added an early second-half penalty, but the hosts hit back with Murray West touching down.
On 53 minutes, Ford slotted his second penalty, but despite the Royal Blues holding the upper hand for the remainder of the game, there was no further reward on the scoreboard.
