Linden ease away

Hawick Linden 27

Orkney 10

LINDEN ran out comfortable winners to continue their 100 per cent home record in 2011.

The long journey did not seem to adversely affect the visitors whose forwards controlled a lot of play in the early stages.

The Teries were keen to play a faster offloading game and they were rewarded when Gavin Stirling stroked over a penalty.

The islanders equalised with a similar effort before Craig Smith stole an Orkney line-out throw and a Steven Boulgas inside pass put Stuart Renwick over at the posts for the opening try, Stirling converting.

Right on half time, after a period of Linden pressure, Michael Graham took a quick tap penalty and darted over to extend the lead to 15-3.

The third quarter saw the visiting forwards tire and Graham popped a short ball to Craig Smith who burst through to give Stirling an easy conversion.

Shortly after, an Orkney clearance kick was charged down and Graham and Smith linked up again for Smith to go over in the corner.

Linden were penalised at the subsequent kick-off and following further penalties Orkney were able to go over for a converted try.
