Fringe players have their chance to shine on Tuesday evening when the John Laing Sevens kicks-off at Poynder Park (first tie 6.30pm).
The 2nd XV event was launched around 40 years ago by the family of Mr Laing, president of Kelso RFC in 1923/24.
Current title holders Gala will be made to wait to start their defence of the trophy. The Maroons take on Selkirk in the last tie of the opening round.
Kelso secretary Norman Anderson said: “Everyone is looking forward to a fine evening’s rugby.”
Draw: Hawick Linden v Jed-Forest; Peebles v Kelso; Melrose v Berwick; Gala v Selkirk.
