Down 12-25 with only five minutes remaining, all the signs were pointing towards another tale of valiant losers for Hawick Linden last weekend.
However, reward came in a dramatic finale as the Teries touched down three times during the closing minutes to snatch a superb victory that meant only a second league defeat of the season for their high-flying visitors.
As has been the case in their last two outings, Linden fell behind in the opening stages. Berwick took control of the game with Shane Armstrong notching a try, conversion and a penalty goal before Lee Douglas and Scott Owens applied some downward pressure of their own, Armstrong converting one, to take the score to 22-0 after only 25 minutes.
On the half-hour mark, some controlled play through a number of phases ended with Graeme Anderson running hard to go over for the Linden’s first try of the day to close the gap to 22-5 at the break.
Eleven minutes into the second period, a surge by Graham Colville saw the Linden skipper over the try line and Kirk Ford’s conversion reduced the deficit to 10 points, but Berwick applied pressure at the kick-off and Armstrong put over the penalty.
From this point, Linden were dominant. Bradley Mercer and Gary Lowrie both recorded tries before Ryan Elliot went flying over for a spectacular score to provide a truly dramatic ending to the game.
