Hawick top pool after strong show

Morgan Academy 22

Hawick 53

THIS was the Greens’ first visit to the Forfar Road ground and with this win they now top the pool after having previously defeated Kelso and Selkirk.

Despite numerous changes and unavailability the visitors started well with Sean Linton opening the scoring in three minutes. Other first-half scorers were Steven Anderson (two), Greg Cottrell and David Lowrie with stand off Rory Hutton converting four tries. The home side scored a converted try to make it 33-7 at the break

The game lost its shape after the break with numerous replacements but Garry Johnstone, Rory Hutton and Lewis Mallin scored tries along with another for winger Steven Anderson to give him a hat-trick.

The home team had their best spell in the second period to score three unconverted tries.

For Hawick Rory Hutton looked sharp before retiring hurt in the second half. He was well supported by Greg Cottrell, while Nick Mactaggart and Kieran Willison showed up well in the forwards.

The Greens are now in the Premier Cup quarter final-draw.
