HAVING the luxury of a full squad and six replacements it didn’t take long for Stormers to stamp their authority on Saturday’s East Reserve League Two match at Philiphaugh.
The league leaders opened the scoring thanks to a try by Kieran Monks – the first of what was to be a hat-trick of tries by the speedy winger.
Not to be outdone, Stormers’ try machine Ben Purves also notched a hat-trick of scores.
Throughout the game the home side used their replacements strategically, resting some of the bigger forwards from the slog of the difficult, muddy conditions.
Portobello tried their best to hold Stormers at bay, and certainly made Selkirk work hard for all their tries.
However, the stronger home team proved too hot a handful for the Cavalry Park men, crossing for nine tries and adding five conversions.
Try scorers: Kieran Monks (3), Ben Purves (3), Darren Clapperton, Chris Sanders and Gary Lyall. Skipper Guy Blair added five conversions.
