Green Machine hits top gear

Dundee HSFP 23

Hawick 25

Rory Hutton scored 15 points, including a late winning conversion, to give Hawick victory at Mayfield.

The home team showed enterprise early on with a Lindsey Graham try and conversion under the posts after the visiting defence looked vulnerable in the middle of the field.

However, the Greens forwards stepped up a gear and it wasn’t long before Hutton scored a well-taken try after selling an excellent dummy.

The stand-off added a penalty goal before Ryan Hogg scored a deserved try which Hutton converted to give Hawick a 15-7 lead after half an hour.

Danny Levison crossed the tryline for the home side, and Jamie Urquhart added the conversion and penalty.

Hutton then slotted a 40m three-pointer to give the Greens an 18-17 lead at the interval.

Rick McKenna converted an opportunist drop goal to give Dundee the lead by 20-18 before Urquhart added another penalty to give them a five-point advantage.

As the game entered the final 10 minutes, it was end-to-end stuff before Hutton made a good blindside break to feed Neil McColm to level the scores.

Hutton coolly converted the extras and the visitors held on for an impressive win.
