Gala end GB&I Cup stint with close loss

ABERAVON gained a late win to gain the double over Scottish Premiership leaders Gala and end their involvement in the GB & Irish Cup this season.

Gala fought back from 8-0 down at the interval to gain a 9-8 lead, but new signing Ceiron Thomas from Cardiff came on for his debut and kicked the winning goal four minutes from time.

Fly-half Luke Price kicked a penalty before his kick ahead saw wing Steffan Andrews score in the corner.

The 8-0 scoreline lasted until the 54th minute when Edinburgh Academy centre Ewan Scott kicked a penalty for the visitors and repeated the act four minutes later.

Replacement fly-half David O’Hagan put over a penalty to give Gala a 9-8 lead after 75 minutes, but Thomas kicked a fine penalty a minute later to win it.

Home prop Anthony Edwards came on for his 200th appearance after 70 minutes and was yellow-carded within seconds.
