A SUPERB second half display at Millbrae saw Gala extend their lead at the top of the Premiership table to six points with just six games to go.
After trailing 13-7 at half-time, George Graham’s men showed great strength of character to battle back and survive a late onslaught from the hosts.
Ayr started brightly and found themselves 13-0 up following a penalty by Craig Gossman and a try brace from brother Kerr.
A sustained period of pressure allowed prop Ewan McQuillin to charge over for a try, converted by Ewan Scott, just before the break, but Gala knew they still had it all to do. Half-time: 13-7.
Gala went one point in front after the restart when Ewan Scott converted a penalty try and continued to demonstrate their title credentials throughout the remainder of the game.
Ewan Scott added two crucial penalties to seal the win.
