GALA A lifted the cup at the Scottish Borders District Union Centenary Sevens at Riverside Park on Saturday, but had to hold off a strong fightback from the home side in a tense final.

Gala A had led 21-0 at half-time, but Jed A came storming back before eventually falling two points short, as a further try in the second half was enough to see the Maroons home 26-24.

Earlier the Netherdale men had seen off Selkirk A and Melrose A before disposing of holders Hawick YM in the semi-final. After a bye into the second round Jed A had edged a tight encounter with Hawick Linden before defeating Earlston in the semi-final.

Hawick Linden bounced back from the disappointment of defeat by Jed A in the cup to dominate the plate competition, comfortably defeating Kelso A then Peebles A to lift the trophy.
