Dingers hold out as Langholm finish strongly

Duns 27

Langholm 20

DESPITE a strong finish, Langholm couldn’t quite get the better of the Dingers, writes John Smith.

After Danny Lamb missed an easy penalty for Duns, visiting fly half Niall Cubbon kicked a penalty to touch, the line-out leading to No8 Steven Nicol crashing over to score.

Duns were again off target with a penalty, before Richard Hume levelled the score with a blindside try. A Ged Lamb penalty put them ahead, before Jamie Semple extended their lead with a solo effort, and Noel Hook added another, the latter made and converted by Ged Lamb.

Into the second half, Cubbon slotted a penalty before shrugging off the cover defence for a try at the corner, but missed the conversion.

However, with 10 minutes remaining and with Langholm down to 14 men due to the sinbinning of locl Daniel Nordon, Duns’ Danny Lamb drew the full back and passed to Stewart Thomson, who went over between the poses, and converted, to increase the home side’s lead.

and the extras were added to make it 27-13 with ten minutes remaining.

Langholm applied pressure in the closing minutes and centre Gregor Masterton found space on the outside to score in the corner and Cubbon superbly converted.
