All up for cup, bar Gala who lead league

IT’S BACK to Border Cup business this weekend as Premier, National and Championship league matches make way for the last of the Autumn Internationals.

Action starts on Friday night when Jed-Forest host Hawick at Riverside Park, while Kelso travel to the Gytes to take on Peebles.

On Saturday, Championship B side Hawick YM host Premiership title contenders Melrose in what should be an entertaining fixture at Mansfield Haugh. Melrose will be fielding some of their younger fringe players, but will not be taking anything for granted.

“It’s a fixture we won’t take lightly, so it’s no different to any other week and it’s in Hawick – say no more,” said Melrose director of rugby, Mike Dalgetty.”

Selkirk have no fixture this weekend.

For Gala, however, there is no such thing as a week off, and they travel to Ayr for a top-flight league tussle.

Ayr were beaten by table props Currie last week, a result which let Gala and Melrose back in at one and two respectively, Gala with one game in hand. Ayr also have a game in hand and sit four points behind the Maroons, so Saturday’s game is crucial for both.
