Using the conditions to master a gutsy Selkirk team Currie had rattled up an impressive score plus a try bonus point by the break.

The introduction of some new personnel into the Souters’ line-up certainly brought some fireworks to proceedings in the second half however, taking them to within three points of the visitors’ lead.

Currie made their intentions clear. Tries from Rory Hughes (2), Michael Vernal, Ross Weston plus two conversions and a penalty from James Semple gave the visitors a healthy 27-3 lead at the break, Jack Cuthbert having kicked a penalty goal for Selkirk.

Whatever verbal encouragement that was given to the home team during the break certainly had an immediate effect. Within two minutes Callum McEwan had crossed while further tries from Josh Welsh and McEwan, two converted by Cuthbert, followed.

The visitors had a slight reprieve when Weston went over for an unconverted try but Selkirk weren’t finished yet and Max Gordon’s try, converted by Cuthbert, saw the Currie lead totally obliterated.

With 15 minutes remaining however the visitors again rallied with Weston and Travis Brooke going over for tries converted by Semple to seal the win.
