The contest, normally an early curtain-raiser to a new season of rugby, was in the diary for August 1 but has been scrapped.

Following the club’s recent annual general meeting, a brief statement on its website confirmed the news, adding: “However, keep up to date on the website and Facebook page for alternatives.”

It’s still not known when rugby in Scotland will resume.
