Melrose native Charlie Shiel scores crucial try in 1872 Cup win

Melrose born scrum-half Charlie Shiel scored his first try for Edinburgh at the weekend as the capital side lifted the 1872 Cup with a 30-15 win over Glasgow Warriors at Murrayfield.

Warriors held a 15-13 lead at half time but Edinburgh went in front after the break before Shiel put the game beyond them with a breakaway score.

Shiel, 22, was born in the Borders town and is the son of former Melrose and Borders Reivers player Graham Shiel and grandson of former Scotland international and British & Irish Lion Dougie Morgan.
