It was a competitive game and very useful as a blow-out after the holiday for the players, in view of national league rugby next weekend.

Kelso opened the scoring with a try by Craig Bruce, fresh from his appearance in the final of the New Year Sprint at Musselburgh on Wednesday. Greg Ponton converted.

Hawick soon hit the scoreboard with a try by Greg Walker. Kyle Brunton converted to level the game.

Matt Young regained the lead for Kelso with a try which, again, was converted by Ponton.

Grant Huggan and Greg Walker scored two further tries for the Force to take them to a 21-14 half-time lead, as Brunton added the additional points.

The scoring in the second half was all for Hawick, with Walker running in for his third try, as well as Aaron Redpath and James Rowley going over for five-pointers.

The first two went unconverted but Baillie Donaldson slotted the extra points for the final try.
