All club facilities at the stadium were temporarily closed and all training suspended on Thursday, following confirmation of a positive Covid-19 test result for an individual who had been at the club two days earlier.

A deep clean took place at the club and the Board met again on Sunday evening, after which a statement was issued.

Jim Shepherd, director of safety at Melrose Rugby, said: “A deep clean has since been carried out at the club and all potential contact points around the pitch have been disinfected. We are satisfied we have done everything we can to minimise any risk of contagion.

“We have carried out a full risk assessment and confirm all appropriate health and safety processes and procedures have been followed.

“We take our responsibilities to our players, staff, volunteers, and visitors very seriously. We will remain vigilant and continue to take swift and decisive action to protect everyone’s health and safety.”
