The former Scotland flanker headed up the Philiphaugh coaching team in the 2010/11 season alongside Rodney Pow but poor results led to the pair standing down. This time around Marshall will work alongside Michael Jaffray assisted by Kieran Cooney and Fraser Jack.

Wright and forwards coach Neill Wood both resigned from their posts following Saturday’s Premiership match against Melrose, along with director of rugby Cameron Cochrane (more on page 86).

Elsewhere speculation that George Graham is preparing to make an exit from his head coach post at Gala RFC is rife. Graham attended a meeting at the Netherdale club on Wednesday night but declined to comment on the outcome. Following their defeat against Currie last week the Maroons now face a relegation play-off against either Marr or Watsonians.

On Saturday National One stragglers Kelso and Peebles travel to Dundee and Marr respectively while Jed-Forest play Selkirk in a Border League fixture at Riverside Park tomorrow night (8pm).
