Renwick snares 376-1 double at Kelso

Hawick jockey Wilson Renwick completed a 376-1 double at another bumper Kelso race meeting on Saturday.

Renwick opened his account on Vinny Gambini, a 28-1 winner of the Dalkeith Bowling Club maiden hurdle race for Northumberland trainer Rose Dobbin.

The six-year-old, who carries the colours of the trainer’s parents, Alnwick-based Sarah and Duncan Davidson, battled gamely up the run-in to hold favourite Ueueteotl from James Ewart’s Langholm stable by a neck.

Renwick’s double was completed with another long priced victory when he gave 12-1 chance Turtle Watch a patient ride to take the Peter Doyle handicap hurdle race for East Lothian owners Ray and Anita Anderson Green.

Jim Goldie’s charge – having just his second run for the Glasgow stable - scored by four lengths from 40-1 chance and long-time leader Captain Brown.

Jan Faltejsek – fresh from his success in the Velka Pardubicka – was reunited with Knockara Beau to land the feature EDF-ER Fallago Rig handicap chase.

The jockey, now based in France, has partnered George Charlton’s stable star to eight of his nine victories and the top weight was back on form to take his winning tally into double figures.

Winning pointer Plan Again made a victorious hurdling debut to head the opening division of the Dalkeith Bowling Club maiden hurdle race for St Boswells owners Clare and Paul Rooney.

Green Flag proved a decent staying hurdler last winter and made a successful reappearance to win ta competitive Clifford and Martin Firth Memorial novices’ chase for Milnathort trainer Lucinda Russell and stable jockey Peter Buchanan.

“It was plenty sharp enough for him, but it was a good place to start over fences,” said Lucinda, who plans to return to the track with her charge for a novice chase at the first December meeting.

Kilgefin Star, made his first run for Kirkheaton trainer Michael Smith a winning one, with a game performance in the Royal Smithfield Club novices’ hurdle race for Berwick owner John Stephenson.

Penultimate race of another bumper eight-race card, was the Sir Maxwell Harper Gow Memorial novice handicap chase, which produced yet another thrilling finish.

Sendiym held Royal Riviera and favourite Ben Akram to score for Cumbrian trainer Dianne Sayer.

Fife trainer Nick Alexander, whose daughter Lucy was sidelined for the afternoon after a fall in the first, took the concluding Maxwell Celebration conditional jockeys’ training series handicap hurdle race with Capital Venture.

The winner is owned by Ray Calder from Duns and her sister Jan Scott, from Jedburgh.

Racing returns to Kelso next month, on Saturday, November 9.
