Two of the women, 29-year-old Suzanne Smith and 22-year-old Suzanne Gray, are keen horse riders with dressage and showing successes at championship level.

However, for this sporting challenge they won’t have the help of their four-legged friends. They will need to run the five-and-a-half laps of the racecourse on their own two-feet.

Joining them are colleagues Kerry James, 44, and Leanne Wilson, 19. All four are based at the firm’s Kelso office.

Suzanne Gray explained: “This is a new race for the Hastings Borders Marathon Event, which the company is sponsoring. It’s been organised as a fundraiser for a national youth charity, Brathay Trust, which helps very vulnerable children and young people get their lives back on track. We are a hard-working team, not shy of a new challenge, and supported by our boss Ron Hastings.

“We’ve started our training and we are looking forward to the race. There are still places left and I would urge anyone who has ticked off the ‘couch-to-5k’ to have a go at this. It is one of the easier 10k races around because it’s a lap event.

“You could also bring along a more serious runner as there is a marathon and half-marathon event to enter, too.”
