Two-day tri proves popular in Gala

The Galashiels Triathlon, run over two days, provided an impressive start to the Borders Sport and Leisure Tri Series.

Forty-five competitors enrolled in the Come and Tri event and 180 in the main Sprint Triathlon (20 more than in 2014).

Amongst this year’s first-time competitors was Isabel McMullan from Bathgate, whose husband entered her as a surprise. She only discovered he had registered her for the event at the end of February.

“I was absolutely buzzing afterwards and still can’t believe I did it,” she said.

“It was run very professionally and everyone who was helping with the organisation was fantastic from the start to the finish.”

The Borders Sport and Leisure Triathlon series will continue with events in Selkirk (May 3), Peebles (June 7), Hawick (June 21), Kelso (August 9) and Eyemouth (September 20).

Full results from all events will be posted on the Borders Sport and Leisure Trust website –
