Swimmers make a splash in capital

Five Gala ASC members took part in the third and final round of the 2014/15 East District Age Group Championships at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh over the weekend.

This event gave the swimmers a taste of competing in a 50m pool and the chance to follow in the footsteps of past Commonwealth champions.

Star of the show for the local club was Sarah Frizzel who became the first Gala-born swimmer to win an East District medal for some time, when she picked up a much-deserved silver in the 100m breaststroke final.
Bethany Hamilton, Maili Brown, Lindsay Jack and Sarah Frizzel all competed in the breast, back, free and fly 100m and 200m IM events, gaining credible PBs and final placings. Not to be outshone by the girls, Andrew Watt also swam in 100m fly, free and 200m IM, securing three PBs in the process.

The club would also like to congratulate Elsbeth Roper, Sarah Frizzel, Lindsay Jack and Andrew Watt, who have all qualified for the Scottish Schools Finals in Aberdeen on January 31.
