Hawick & Wilton beat Dunbar by 7 wkts

Hawick got off to the perfect start in their East of Scotland Division Six campaign as they notched a win at Buccleuch Park on Saturday.

Skipper Phil Mactaggart won the toss and elected to field first, with Ryan Johnston picking up the first wicket when Ronan Alexander took a catch at square leg.

Johnston and Neil Storey both bowled tight opening spells and the latter got his reward with a wicket in the final over with Allan Moffat taking the catch.

Stuart Hair and Christo Beukes kept the pressure on, with the former claiming one wicket and the latter taking two, including an excellent caught and bowled, to leave Dunbar on 71 for five. However, Dunbar’s opening batsman N. Binnie remained unbeaten and Dunbar posted a total of 143 for seven from their 40 overs.

In reply the home side got off to a solid start with father and son partnership, Gary and Ronan Alexander, putting on 24 before the latter was caught on the boundary for two.

Pierce Solley joined Alexander Snr at the crease
and the pair looked to chase down the total. Solley hit two sixes on his way to 47 as the pair put on 81 for the second wicket.

However, two balls later, Beukes was caught behind to give the visitors a glimmer of hope.

Moffat joined Alexander as he reached his half-century as they guided the Teries home with just under five overs to spare as Moffat remained unbeaten on 25 and Alexander on 57.
