Medals galore for Gala swimmers

Galashiels ASC swimmers have had a busy time of it over the past two weeks.

Courtney Stewart, Sophie Wilson, Sam Shepherd, Jake Shepherd and Laura Frizzel travelled to Duns to compete in the annual ‘500 Meet’ and put on a fantastic display.

Courtney who has been recovering from injury swam in the 100M IM, Free, Fly and Back where she recorded two PBs and collected one Gold, two Silver and one Bronze. Sophie competed in the 100M IM, Free, Fly, Back and Breast and managed five PBs and one Bronze in a very strong girl’s age group field. Sam put in great swims and had PBs for the 100M Back and Free while Jake also had PBs for the 100M Breast and IM collecting a Bronze medal in the process.

Last weekend five members travelled to Prestonpans to compete in the ELST Distance Meet.

Elsbeth Roper had great swims in the 200M Back (PB), 200IM (PB) and 200M Breast while Maili Brown put in good performances for the 200M Back, 200m Free (PB) and gained a huge PB in the 400m Free. Lindsay Jack kept up the good work in the 200M Back collecting a Silver medal and had strong swims in the 200IM and 200M Breast (PB). Bethany Hamilton swam well in the 200M Back, Breast and IM and again in the 400m IM (PB) and took 12 seconds of her PB in the 400M Free. Not to be outdone by the girls, Robbie Czajka had six great swims in the 200m Fly (PB), 200M Back, IM & Free, 400M IM and 400M Free with another PB.

Beth Johnston and Finlay Lindores were also in action when they competed in the SDS Performance Championships at Tollcross Glasgow.

Finlay swam in the 50M Free (PB) and knocked a massive 12 seconds of his 100M Back. He also swam in the 400M Free for the first time and collected a Bronze medal before injury ruled him out of his other events. Beth had great swims in her 200m IM and collected Silver medals in her 50M & 100 M Free events. She also swam in the 100M Back and not only beat her previous time but broke the Scottish Record for the S10 class.
