An inspection took place over the Borders track at noon today, after which it was decided to abandon the closed-doors event, as the course was frozen and would need more than 24 hours to thaw.

Management – who also had to cancel Kelso’s New Year meeting on January 17 because of poor weather – had been keeping an eye on course over the weekend but noted the going was heavy and frozen in places.

Yesterday, the track was declared not raceable because of frost. Further sub-zero temperatures were expected at night, although they were due to rise today and the inspection was arranged.

Frost covers had been deployed earlier in the weekend at all takeoffs, landings and most vulnerable areas but, unfortunately, the weather was too severe.

The next race meeting due at Kelso is a seven-race event on Friday, February 19.
