Kelso in top spot at halfway point

Peebles 1sts 1

Kelso 2nds 4

Kelso Ladies 2nds were back to league action after the winter break with a tricky away game to Peebles.

It was anticipated that this top-of-the-table clash was always going to be a keenly fought and tight contest and that is exactly how it turned out, with the only goal in the opening period going to Kelso through a penalty stroke from Sophie Aitchison.

With both teams battling for midfield supremacy, the first half ended in a tense period of play, which resulted in a player from both sides being green-carded.

After the interval, Aitchison added a second goal for Kelso from the edge of the D. Just as it looked as though Kelso may take control of the match, Peebles responded quickly with a goal of their own to keep themselves in touch.

Solid defending by Kelso kept them in front until they again established a two-goal cushion following a delightful reverse flick goal from Rona Fleming, and with 10 minutes remaining, Kirsty Logan drove home a great shot to seal the match for Kelso. This result leaves the Tweedsiders firmly in pole position and they can now look forward with confidence going into the second half of the season.

Kelso 3rds’ match was called off due to a frozen pitch.
