Kate Mactaggart presented a £1500 cheque to the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust, to acknowledge the backing received by her daughter Isobel.

Kate raised the impressive total with the help of friends who all sold soup, home baking and refreshments at Kelso Racecourse’s popular Festive Fling Day, the final race occasion of 2019 at the Borders course.

She said: “The Trust has supported Isobel to follow her sporting dreams of pistol shooting for Scotland and Great Britain.

“I also have various friends throughout the Borders who have children who have benefited from the Trust’s generous help.

“As a result, I wanted to do something to help increase awareness and some funds for the Trust across the Borders.

Kelso Racecourse has a facility known as the Charity Tea Room, and Kate and her freinds were lucky enough to be able to use it for the race meeting at the end of December.

“The weather was good but cold, which helped us sell our soup, tea and coffee and baking to racegoers who were seeking to warm up,” said Kate.

“We were thrilled to hand over a cheque for £1501 to the Trust and look forward to following the progress of its supported athletes during 2020.”

Rowan Boland Memorial Trust committee member Euan Dods added: “For Kate and her friends to give up their time to raise funds on behalf of the Trust is a fantastic gesture, which allows us to continue to help the Borders’ most promising sporting talent.”
