Hardy Harriers have fun on runs

The annual Gala Harriers 10k and 3k Fun Run took place from Tweedbank on Sunday with excellent runs from both junior and senior athletes.

Over the 3k of the Fun Run, Corri Campbell, in an impressive 8 minutes 44 seconds, was the first of the trio of the Campbell clan home, all of whom finished in the top seven, narrowly beating Gregor Collins (8.52) and Evan McConnell (9.40) into second and third place respectively.

For the girls, Rhiannon Fagan romped home first in 9.57, with Isla Paterson (11.11) and Thea Taylor (11.14) in a very closely-fought battle for the second and third places.

Gavin Bryson took first place in the senior race in 33 minutes 13 seconds, with only a couple of seconds separating himself and seasoned campaigner Darrell Hastie in 33.15, with Broc Dury third in 33.48, followed in by Graeme Murdoch in 33.54.

Dianne Lauder was the first woman home in a grand time of 36.37, with Kirstin Maxwell (38.35) and Jenny Forbes (40.29) deserving runner-up and third-placed female athletes respectively.

This Saturday sees the annual Eildon 3 Hills Race, starting at the Greenyards at 2.30pm. Having taken place in late June for more than 50 years, the race concludes the Melrose Festival.
