Fjordhus Reivers thirds have won the East of Scotland Division Three title in their first year of playing competitive hockey.
Victories over Ross High and Watsonians IV topped off what has been a fantastic season for the players.
On Saturday the ladies headed away to Ross High on a wild and windy day and after a casual start the girls really got into the game with goals coming from Chloe Richardson and Caitlin Wright in the first half.
Consistent pressure in the second half forced the hosts deep into their own half and saw goals come thick and fast with scores from both Camilla Smith and Dizzy White (2). The final whistle saw a solid 5-0 win.
With the first win of the weekend under their belts the Sunday game against Watsonians brought about an exciting season finale.
The Reivers were out quickly from the start and goals came early from Lara Patterson, Tara Aitchison and Chloe Richardson. The passing and ball control was terrific throughout the game and the second half saw a quick score from Camilla Smith. Unfortunately a scrappy penalty corner saw Watsonians shovel the ball across the goal line.
However, undeterred by this the Reivers scored within seconds and the final score stood at 5-1.
After a loss in their very first game of the season, the young players have grown together as a team, and only suffered one other defeat all season. The goal difference has also been exceptional, with 68 goals for and only nine against.
Borders hockey development officer and Fjordhus 1sts coach Janet Jack told The Southern: “The hard work and enthusiasm within the squad has truly paid off and their promotion is very well deserved.
“Thanks must also go to Pippa (Bell), Dizzy (White), and also the loyal supporters who have turned out throughout the season irrespective of the weather conditions.
“This is an exciting time for a young team and we look forward to what the next league has in store for them.”
