In almost perfect conditions, the archers took to the field for the morning session and, and at the midway break on the 180yd clout, there were only four points separating the top four gents, with all to play for in the afternoon.

On the 120yds clout, reported chairman Douglas Anderson, Elaine Pearson was finding her old form after the long lay-off, with the two juniors, Lara Fairbairn and Ben Foggin, having a tussle of their own.

Unfortunately, Ben had to retire from the afternoon session, while senior octogenarian, Trevor Austin, was happy to be enjoying the company of the youngsters.

The afternoon saw the sun come out and, as the temperature rose the competition also heated up, with Jason Fairbairn forging ahead to claim the right to append his medal to the base of the coveted
