Reivers 2nd XI were hoping there wouldn’t be any scary surprises as they travelled to the capital on Halloween.

Their fears were unfounded, however, as, putting their confidence and experience to good use, they effectively won the game inside the first 20 minutes.

Solid at the back, hard-working in midfield and creative up front was the recipe for the Fjordhus success and they scored two early goals through young striker, Jenny Sharp.

A further three goals more or less settled the result before the interval. Elena Lunn, Laura McLean and Sarah Mathers all getting their names on the scoresheet.

Rare attacks into the Fjordhus final third by the Students found stand-in keeper, Jackie Wilson, in fine form but, just before the break, the home side did score when a penalty corner hit was deflected into the path of a striker who made no mistake.

The game was much scrappier after the break and the University side enjoyed more possession, but rarely broke through the Borderers’ defences. Reivers still looked threatening in attack and further goals from McLean and Sharp sealed the deal.

There was just time for one more strike at goal from the hosts but, with the reactions of a cat, Wilson again kept the students out.
