The AIMUp mountain bike chairlift proposed for Innerleithen may have hit the buffers, but there definitely will be a rollercoaster on Cademuir Hill.

More precisely the Cademuir Rollercoaster hill race, which returns for a second year on Saturday, August 15.

The race, organised by Moorfoot Runners, takes in the summits of Cademuir Hill and has again secured sponsorship from Peebles’ popular Italian restaurant, Franco’s.

There is a two-course menu on offer for the runners of the 3km and a 6km events, which the organisers say provide a sufficiently testing race for the experienced hill runner, but not so challenging as to rule out the fit novice, newcomer or junior.

The 3km race is open to all, minimum age 11 this calendar year, and the 6km is minimum age 15.

Race organiser Gregor Nicholson said: “This is a very runnable course, mostly on the inviting paths of The John Buchan Way, with some fantastic views en route.

“We received some great feedback last year when 57 runners took part, and are planning for a healthy increase this year.

“We’re delighted to have Franco’s on board again as race sponsor.”

Franco’s proprietor Francesco de Martino, added: “Marisa and I are very pleased to be supporting another of our local community clubs.

“We hope the runners and spectators are blessed with some Sorrento-like weather and come and enjoy an al fresco refreshment afterwards on our new terrace.”
