‘Awesome’ start for Lauder pair

With a new major sponsor on board and new livery for the 2015 season, Lauder’s Formula One British sidecar team rolled into Donington Park last weekend.

Stephen Kershaw and his passenger Rob Wilson made the trip south to the iconic 2.4-mile circuit, heading up the Express Tyres Blinkbonny Quarry team with their new 1,000cc Kawasaki power engine.

Sunday’s qualifying was a tight affair with less than a second separating the top 12 teams. Kershaw and Wilson qualified in fifth position, averaging 91mph around the circuit. The ensuing 12-lap race was run in dry conditions and, after a few laps, the team moved into third place, where they continued to battle with the Be Wiser team to the chequered flag, finishing in fourth place, a solid start to the championship.

Monday’s bank holiday race was cut down to eight laps.

Once again the Lauder duo were on the pace from the start and made their way through to a strong fifth-placed finish, which leaves them in fourth position in the British F1 Sidecar Championship.

After the race the whole team – which is a real family affair – were delighted with the result, with Kershaw exclaiming that the new Kawasaki-powered machine was “awesome”.
