In perfect sunny conditions the club rallied 34 members for the trip to Stirling for the Scottish Qualifying round of the Trophy knowing that competition would be tight against several other clubs who had been in the final in recent years.

With a computer updating results with every finisher it was exciting to see Roxburgh Reivers near the top of the list from fairly early on after a great run by Faisal Khursheed who was eventually to top his class for the full 100 points.

Next to finish at the top was Robin Sloan on M65, closely followed by John Tullie on M55. Pauline McAdam was lying in second place for some time and this was eventually her final spot, taking an excellent 99 points. Backing up these were four third places from Kirstin Maxwell, Douglas Tullie, Barry Veitch and Yousuf Khursheed.

After a nervous wait for some later starters Reivers were confirmed in a comfortable second place behind Clydeside Orienteerers but ahead of previous winners of the Trophy, Edinburgh Interlopers. Key to the Reivers success was a wide range of ages which meant most courses were covered, not forgetting the many coaching sessions run by club coach Ian Maxwell.

The eagerly awaited Final is in South Yorkshire in October.

The next local event is at Lanton on Saturday, April 2. Details on the club website www.roxburghreivers.co.uk
