Racing in the Junior Lights and Production classes at Whilton Mill, Norhamtonshire the seven-year-old had a great practice day on the Saturday but, although racing on the Sunday started off well, a bad accident in the pitbike warm up resulted in racing being cut down to just one race each on each bike instead of the normal two.

Despite the set-back however Troy finished an excellent second place in the junior lights and 10th in the production class for a great start to his season.

Troy and his family, who double up as his pit crew, would also like to welcome Jimmy Shanks, from Blinkbonny Quarry aboard as their new sponsor.

Jimmy said: “Troy has done very well in the short time he has been racing and, as is the way with most sports nowadays, unless they start young competitors have very little chance of success.

“Troy’s parents are putting a great deal of effort into his racing and I felt that with so many different sports competing for funding it would be nice to put something back into a sport which has given me so much pleasure over the years.

“Hopefully our support will help Troy race successfully into the future. It would be nice to see a youngster carry on the Borders tradition of producing successful riders.”
