Gala beat Melrose by six wickets

THE final for the third and fourth-placed teams in the Under-13 League saw 10-man Melrose elect to bat, but early wickets for Robbie Irvine and Charlie Edwardson had the home side on top.

Only Thomas Brown, with a confident 27, stood up to the home attack as Melrose were bowled out for 44 in the 16th over.

For the home side, Irvine and Edwardson claimed two wickets each, while there was one each for Finlay Rutherford, Kerr Halls and Jamie Crooks, but it was the Gala fielding that made the difference, with Jack Easson taking a good catch and producing two run-outs with direct hits, while Alistair Crooks had a hat-trick of catches fielding at point.

In reply, Brown also proved a danger, removing Rutherford and Halls with just eight runs on the board to set the home nerves jangling.

Irvine and Easson took control, though, batting patiently and sensibly, steadily knocking off the runs until, with three runs needed, Brown returned to the attack and had Easson (12) caught at mid-wicket. Lawson Marr fell one run later, before Irvine guided Gala to their target, finishing on 22 not out.
