THE Borders ladies were keen to get a result in this National (hockey) League Two clash as it was their last game before the winter break.

Three points were essential if the team are to meet their goal of a top-four finish.

A great deal of work had been covered on the training pitch and with new ideas and formations studied and drilled to ensure that the team can compete with the best in the league.

On Saturday, it looked as though all that hard work had paid off.

From the first whistle, the Borderers had possession and settled into playing in the attacking 25, and goals from Emily Newlands and Denise Fairbairn saw the hosts take a half-time lead of 2-0.

The first 20 minutes of the second half saw some of the best hockey played by the Borders Ladies this season and it wasn’t long before they had the game in the bag with further goals from Zoe Higgins, Leia Mackinnon and Lucy Inglis (2).
