GALA moved into the Borders region semi-final of the Murgitroyd National 20/20 Cup with a 16-run victory over St Boswells at The Green.
It was an entertaining encounter, given the poor weather conditions.
On being asked to bat first, Josh Irvine and David Boland got the visitors off to a good start.
Irvine was first to go, hanging his bat and being caught behind by McIlroy for 12, while Boland was looking as if he was back to form before hitting a short ball from Steven Broom straight to mid-wicket for 28.
Good contributions followed from Neil Crooks, Rory Hancock and Duncan Millar and Scott Paterson took their total up to 143 from their 20 overs.
For the home side the reply was all about one player as Broom took charge of the run chase.
Jamie Glover gave good support at the top of the order with 19 before holing out to Josh Irvine at long-off, but Alasdair McIlroy was the only other home batsman to reach double figures.
Needing 23 off the final three overs, with Broom still at the crease and wickets in hand, the home side were favourites.
However, Andy Lawrie struck the crucial blow, yorking Broom for a hard-hitting 70 with the first ball of the 18th over.
From here, the home innings fell apart as Kris Mein cleaned up, taking three for 18 from his four overs.
