Tweedsiders open their account

Preston Lodge 1

Kelso Ladies 3

KELSO LADIES secured their first victory of the season at a blustery Meadowmill pitch on Saturday.

Facing newly-promoted Preston Lodge Ladies, the Borderers were determined to come home with a win, but a scrappy start to the game, in horrible conditions, left both sides frustrated.

Kelso had the most attacking play and were unlucky not to be ahead through Sarah Hope.

Preston Lodge had their chances, too, but some good defensive play kept them from denting the score board.

Suzanne Fleming put the Tweedsiders ahead just before half-time, picking up a great pass from Natasha McLaren and calmly slotting the ball passed the keeper.

After the break, Kelso doubled their lead when a well worked penalty corner allowed Carin Logan to put the visitors 2-0 up.

Both sides had penalty corners and chances to put more goals away.

Kelso’s hard work paid off and they were rewarded with a third goal.

A great run down field left McLaren with only a defender and the goalie to beat and secure the points.

Preston Ladies picked up their game and pushed for a goal, and a strong Kelso defence were unlucky to concede late on.

Kelso: L. Blaikie, G. Stewart, L. Denham, K. Carruthers, N. Mackay, L. Laign, E. Pate, N. Mclaren, S. Fleming, C. Logan, S. Hope, H. Wallwork.
