Tweedsiders hold their own against leaders

Erskine Stew Mel II2

Kelso ladies were narrowly beaten on Saturday when taking on the current East of Scotland Premier hockey league leaders, Erskine Stewart Melville II.

Kelso started the game well and applied pressure from the whistle to maintain the majority of possession.

Each individual team member showed commitment and played fantastic hockey, showing great attacking and defending skills. Unfortunately, Erskine Stewart Melville managed to regain possession and with a swift attack were able to score the first goal of the match.

This was swiftly followed by a second to make the score 0-2 at half-time.

In the second half, Kelso again pulled out all the stops and with a super passage of play were able to break down Erskine Stewart Melville defence. With slick passes from all players involved, Katie Francis was able to finish off by hammering the ball into the back of the net.

At the final whistle, the score was 1-2 to the visitors, but the spectators agreed that this certainly did not reflect the quality and class of play from the Kelso Ladies.

The ladies wish to thank the White Swan Hotel, Earlston, for the match teas.

This Saturday, Kelso Ladies travel to play Liberton.
