Tweedbank’s top orienteering action

MORE than 90 runners converged on Tweedbank on Sunday for round four of the Scottish Orienteering Urban League, hosted by local club Roxburgh Reivers.

Based at the running track, competitors tackled courses of between two and six miles, trying to find the fastest route between the checkpoints.

Young Roxburgh members did well with Eilidh Murray from Hawick finishing third in the girls’ under-12s and Faisal Khursheed from Melrose taking fourth place on the competitive under-16 boys’ course. Other junior results: 5=, Sam McKinnon, Yousuf Khursheed; 6, Calum Murray.

In the seniors, the best result was Karen Maxwell’s second on the women’s open course.

Third places went to Pauline McAdam in the 55-and-over section and Ian Maxwell in the 40-and-over category.

The next Borders event returns to the traditional woodland setting of Gala Hill on September 28.
