Tricky course for first ride of the season

A FANTASTIC start was made to the 2011 endurance season with the Borders branch hosting their first ride of the season at Harestanes visitor centre near Jedburgh on Sunday.

With an excellent turnout of around 70 horses and riders, all was set for a great event with the weather playing its part by staying cool and dry – ideal for all the competitors.

With an option of 18 or 30km route, the caravan and vet crew were hard at work. As well as the railway and tracks through woodlands there was also the odd canter through open fields and a climb up to the Waterloo monument, revealing spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Getting back down proved a little tricky for some as it was rather steep and rocky in places.

Nonetheless the ride was excellent and greatly appreciated by all who attended – thanks go to the organisers and helpers.

The next ride is a pleasure event on April 10 at Kelso.

Please note that entries should be sent to the ride secretary, Rachel McDonald, on, at least two weeks before the ride in order to ensure your entry is accepted.
