Top riders in for sprint

ORGANISERS of TweedLove bike week have confirmed the entry list for The Peebles Sprint, an exciting Belgian-style town centre road race to be staged in Peebles on Tuesday, June 14, at 7.15pm.

David Lines, Martin Lonie, Graham McGarrity, Greg Imlah, Ali Robinson, David Martin, Ken Russell, Andy Mathison, Robbie Hassan and Matt McDonald are among the stellar line-up of Scotland’s fastest and most skilled elite amateur road racers who have been invited to take part in the spectacular showcase of closed circuit road racing in the Tweed Valley.

The impressive entry list is a who’s who of two-wheeled Scots – past, present and future; regional, national and international champions; some of whom are destined to ride in the Commonwealth Games, British Championships and as professionals both at home and abroad.

Forty riders, made up of four-man teams from leading Scottish clubs, will battle it out at incredible speeds over a number of laps of a half-mile, fast and furious course (1 minute 30 seconds per lap) in the town centre for almost an hour (45 minutes plus five laps) for pride of place on the first Peebles Sprint podium.

To make the action even more thrilling, lapped riders will be taken off the circuit, keeping the course clear for the faster front-runners to continue to pick up the pace.

The Peebles Sprint will be preceded by an open family ride of the full race circuit at 6.30pm, where everyone will be welcome to bring along their bikes and ride the course.

TweedLove bike week, in association with Endura, has a packed programme of free and paid events being staged throughout the cycle friendly Tweed Valley from Saturday, June 11 to Sunday, June 19.
