Too much ice for curling hits Border League schedule

THOSE who have been keeping up to date on the Border Ice Rink website will already know that the rink was closed during the recent heavy snow fall.

Most clubs will reschedule their games, as will the Border League, but the venue did miss out in not holding the mixed invitation weekend which reduces the usual income to the club and caterer. Skating was also off for two weeks.

The new date for the Waldie Griffiths tournament against Peebles is still to be confirmed, Maxwell v Hamilton will be played at Kelso on January 6 at 2.30 pm while Maxwell v Forfar is now on February 24.

Border League Games can be played on Thursday December 30 at 2.30pm or at another time which will be agreed between the clubs.

There is still room for more entries into the fun Family Bonspiel, which will be held on December 27. Enter your family on the sheet in the bar, by phone on 01573 224774, or on the web at

The Border Quizspiel has become a tradition after the Bonspiel. As usual there will be prizes for each of the eight rounds of questions and a prize for the outright winners.

Please check the curling calendar on the website for up and coming competitions you may wish to enter, including Ralph Brooks for the older curlers and Cunningham for the younger curlers, played between Christmas and the new-year.
