Borders 21 Renfrewshire 17

Borders 41 Aberdeen B 4

Borders 23 East Renfrewshire 2

THE newly-formed Borders U17 squad, sponsored by Hirsel Estates Developments, took to the court in Bell’s Centre, Perth, at the weekend for qualifying matches to determine the top six district squads in Scotland.

Fifteen teams battled it out with the aim of finishing in the top two places in their respective sections, and thus qualifying for a place in the Under-17 district performance tier for the coming season.

The young Borders squad, with three players still under-15, drew a tough section. However, captained by under-17 international player Jo Pettitt, they were focused from the start, putting on a tremendous show of skill and strength to dominate throughout.

With four wins out of four matches, Borders took the top place in their section, resulting in a well-deserved automatic place in the performance tier. The elite group will meet for matches over the coming months, not only to determine overall district champion, but also to gain valuable match play experience at the highest level.

Borders U17 Squad: Jo Pettitt, Jenny Hudson, Ellen Jardine, Susanne Krabbendam, Neve McLean, Flora Gillies, Lauren Tait, Hannah MacDonald, Mhairi Jackson, Naomi Symonds, Hannah Crick. Coach: Linda Nicholson. Team manager: Lynn Hudson.
