Gala moved above Heriot’s 2nds in East League Division One, with a 15-run win at Meigle Park.
The game was in the balance with 10 overs to go, and Heriot’s needing a run a ball, but the asking rate steadily increased until the visitors entered the final over with six wickets down and needing 16 runs to win. Dinesh Tharanga bowled a great last over, however, with a triple-wicket maiden, bowling Shahbaz, Singh and Durrani, as Heriot’s ended on 196 for 9.
Earlier, Gala had elected to bat first, and David Boland and Jack Halls started well before Gala lost three wickets quickly to slip to 62 for 3.
Duncan Millar and Neil Crooks took the score to 118 before Millar went, but Crooks moved past his half-century and good contributions from Kris Mein, Graeme Ormiston and Tharanga saw Gala to 211 for 8 from their 50 overs.
Dean Moir made an early breakthrough, removing Thomson with nine runs on the board, but with Case finding the boundary with regularity and others providing good support, Heriot’s were always in contention.
Kris Mein made the crucial breakthrough when Case was caught by Robbie Pringle.
Good bowling from Moir and Pringle put Heriot’s under pressure before Tharanga’s last over heroics.
