Tharanga’s forthright four for four from four does it for Gala

Gala beat Hawick & Wilton by 60 runs

AN EXCELLENT all-round performance by Dinesh Tharanga helped Gala ease to victory over Hawick in rather testing conditions at Buccleuch Park.

The Sri Lankan steadied the Gala innings with a solid 21 not out before ripping the heart out of the Hawick top order with four wickets for four runs from his four overs as Gala overwhelmed the Hawick batting line-up.

Gala were also helped greatly by the inconsistency of the home bowlers as 21 wides and four no-balls were delivered to provide the visitors with a valuable 25 extra runs and the additional deliveries.

It had all looked so different early on as Hawick made inroads into the Gala top order with all batsmen struggling to come to terms with the grassy wicket.

Tharanga dug in, however, to give the Braw Lads a platform while Scott Paterson, Rory Hancock and especially Robbie Pringle, with a late flurry, helped get Gala up to 86 for 7 at the end of their 20 overs.

Gala were confident they had enough runs on the board and so it proved as they performed with an intensity Hawick did not match in the field, led by some sharp keeping from Duncan Millar with Rory Hancock and Josh Irvine taking excellent catches.

Tharanga struck in the second over of the innings when Alexander drove off a thick edge to Hancock at point with only one run on the board. Pierce Solley drove Tharanga to mid-off Jack Halls, who took a good catch, and lightning hands by Millar saw Greg Baillie stumped off Scott Paterson.

Allan Moffat followed three balls later, swinging across a straight one and being trapped lbw before Phil Mactaggart edged Tharanga to Millar and Neil Storey was bowled behind his legs first ball. Rory Hancock then came on and bowled a remarkable first over, with three wickets and three wides.

Robbie Pringle wrapped up the Hawick innings by bowling last man Doug Bryant as the home side capitulated to 26 all out in 11.2 overs.
