Teenage golfing ace Tara Mactaggart has been selected to represent Scotland at the Girls’ Home Internationals next month.

And the 17-year-old Teri is joined in the side to compete at St Annes Old Links on August 7-9 by fellow Minto member Lesley Adkins, with Danielle Ker (Roxburghe) named as a reserve.

Tara, who has played for Scotland at under-16 level, said: “It means so much to me to be selected to represent my country. I’ve worked so hard this season to get my game together with the help of my coach Frank Scott.

“I am excited to play, but fairly nervous.”

It caps a momentous time for the two-handicap golfer, who finished runner-up in the Scottish Girls’ Championship at Ranfurly Castle two weeks ago.

Tara defeated fellow Borderer Ker 3&1 in the semi-final, but lost out 4&3 in the final to Connie Jaffrey (The Ladies’ Golf Club, Troon).

The Borderer was only one over par for the first 14 holes before having a double bogey six at the 15th.

Both Tara and Danielle played in the Scottish Ladies’ Junior Open Strokeplay Championships held at Inverness last week.

And, in what is a busy few weeks for the girls, Tara is also set to contest the Girls’ British Open Amateur Championship at Fairhaven on August 12-16.

Tara said: “I wouldn’t have got this far without the support of my family, friends and the members at Minto Golf Club.”
