Sportif Judo club’s squad returned from last Saturday’s Scottish Championships at Ravenscraig Sports Centre, Kilmarnock, for eight to 12-year-olds, with a successful haul of seven golds, six silvers and seven bronze medals, topping the medal table.

The weekend before, the squad also took part in the Budo Nord International, followed by an international camp held in Lund, Sweden, from May 13-17.

Nine hundred players from 16 nations took part ... and
the Sportif squad returned with two gold, one silver and five bronze medals, Robyn McKay and Luke Thomson from Melrose both winning gold medals in their weight divisions.

Sportif had a great start to the year, winning the GK Cup at the Sportif International Tournament 2015 held in Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh on April 4.

Again, the club topped the medal table, winning the most medals against 12 other nations including South Africa and Canada.

This is the first time a club team has won this prestigious trophy and is a huge achievement. Congratulations go to all players, parents and coaches for their hard work and dedication in achieving this season’s successes.

Players now have a grading to look forward to and will be preparing for the next part of the year and the National Championships later in the year.
